SMODO is an innovative stop-motion technology that combines classic puppet animation with innovative motion capture technique. SMODO offers new possibilities of creating animations, which combines the best in 3D technology and stop-motion animation.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
SMODO allows you to work in the classic technique of stop-motion animation, while at the same time enjoying the benefits of 3D technology. Using the SMODO animator, instead of a doll, he works with the skeleton itself, equipped with colored markers. A special marker tracking system transfers the skeleton's pose to the 3D editing program, in which the digital model of the doll is put on the skeleton. As a result, the animator watches the whole doll on the computer screen, just like in a classic animation. Thanks to this, cleaning of frames from analog rigs or errors in lighting will no longer be necessary. One of the many benefits of SMODO is the ability to freely change the position of the camera observing the scene, as well as any modification of lighting - even for an already realized shot!
SMODO offers the possibility of changing the stage lighting, changing the whole or part of the set, introducing any modification of the doll's appearance, appearance or dress, as well as its facial expressions, and even the correction of the doll's size and proportions - even after the time-consuming and costly animation process ends. One of the goals of work on SMODO technology is to limit computer modeling to classical stop motion animation. Creating SMODO was guided by the thought to significantly reduce the cost and time of production, while preserving what is the most valuable in the classic puppet animation, namely handicrafts, richness of details, and the characteristic way of moving the characters.
SMODO is due to be released in the first quarter of 2019. For more information please visit the SMODO website: http://smodo.co/
