The Motion Weekly is a showcase of awe-inspiring short films, animation and motion graphic works from around the web. Some pieces featured have been created by professional studios, while others may be personal works. May this weekly segment serve to inspire you.

Though my original goal with this segment was to specifically highlight motion graphics and animated short films, it had evolved to also showcase incredible live-action, outstanding cinematography, and wicked cool experimental works. It's all motion, it's all inspiring. So, take the time to kick back and have a look at some fantastic work being produced out there. And, if you like what you see in this segment, please share it.

One Word

A stunning short film created for a campaign for The Learning Corp's Constant Therapy app, which helps people recovering from brain injury. This piece is an incredible mixture of 2D and 3D, and made with Blender, Cinema 4D, After Effects, and other software. This is a must-see.

One Word from Lightfarm Studios on Vimeo.

Lightfarm and Area 23 bring home the Gold Lion for Best Film at the Cannes Festival. The video “One Word” is a mix of 3D and 2D animation that was created using Blender (Eevee) Cinema 4D, Zbrush, Houdini, After Effects and Photoshop. The campaign “One Word”, made for The Learning Corp’s newest app “Constant Therapy”, was brought to life to assist trauma patients who have suffered a brain injury.

This video required the focus and effort of the entire Lightfarm team and was impressively created in about 2 months. And we would like to thank Area23 for inviting us to be a part of this amazing journey. We are very excited and proud of this achievement.

Freaks of Nurture

An excellent stop-motion film that is both funny and heartwarming. The details in the props are fantastic.

Freaks of Nurture from National Film Board of Canada on Vimeo.

Freaks of Nurture is an animated short about a neurotic mother-daughter relationship inspired by the filmmaker’s own unorthodox upbringing with her single-parent mom, who is also a foster parent and dog breeder. Self-deprecating and bursting with energy, the film reveals that no matter how grown-up we think we are, we never quite stop craving the love and support of a parent.

See Animals

This short film makes quite the statement about the technological age we live in. Beautifully animated, with a great character design and color.
